Teens are as much as 10 times more susceptible to sexually transmitted diseases than adults.

Though they make up less than 10% of the population, teens contract 25% of the sexually transmitted diseases in America.
That's 2.5 million teens each year.

25% of all new HIV infections are found in people under the age of 22.

More teens have chlamydia-a disease that can cause infertility-than any other age group.  About a third of all sexually active teens are infected with this disease.

AIDS is the leading killer of Americans between 25 and 44.

Condoms provide virtually no protection against a sexually transmitted disease called the human papilloma virus (HPV).  HPV is the most common medical problem seen by gynecologists and causes almost all cervical cancer in women.

Each year, more than 1 million teens become pregnant.  Of these pregnancies, 35% end in abortion.

Of all babies born each year in America, 12% are born to teens.  About 70% of these teen mothers are unmarried, and more than 40% will drop out of school.
 
 

• Agree that sex before marriage is wrong and has consequences.
• Acknowledge and turn away from any past sexual activity and choose secondary virginity.
• Decide now not to engage in premarital sex (even if your engaged).  No matter what or who you are with.
• Decide not to defraud anyone-not to arouse someone sexually beyond what you can righteously fulfill.
• Keep your mind pure and stay in control.  Thoughts determine actions.  You are capable of rational, mature decisions that do not include sex, drugs, or alcohol.
• Avoid drugs, alcohol, sexually oriented media such as radio, TV, movies magazines, and lustfully looking at the opposite sex.  These are all powerful influences.
• Dress to reflect your convictions.  Girls, remember that guys are stimulated by your sight.
• Choose companions carefully-choose dates who share your convictions.
• Don't be in a hurry to go steady.  Date casually to form friendships and develope good communication.
• Group date.  There is safety in numbers.  Don't put yourself into a place or situation where you can not be heard if you were to scream.  Date rape is all too common.
• Develope close relationships with family and friends.  Love is found in building good relationships.  Sex does not equal love.
• Make a commitment to stick to these standards.  Respect yourself and others.  YOU ARE IMPORTANT!  Treat yourself with dignity.
• Tell one other person about your standards.  Be accountable to that person on a regular basis.  Who is your person?
