Welcome to Blissfield!

We’re sincerely glad you’ve found us!

In 1999, the Village of Blissfield celebrated it's one hundred seventy-fifth birthday. Founded in 1824 by Hervey Bliss, this peaceful, friendly village is fast becoming one of the best destinations in southeastern Michigan (map). Make the Depot Museum and Welcome Center (above) your first stop when you visit Blissfield and discover...

Plentiful antiques — Blissfield boasts nine antique shops and over 250 dealers. Chances are you will find that perfect piece for the special place in your home. From furniture to glassware, from jewelry to utensils… you can find it here.

Great restaurants — Blissfield has a little something for every palate.  We are home to the Hathaway House and Main Street Stable, long considered one of Michigan’s finest dining establishments. However, we also have fine fast food and good old hometown cookin’ restaurants. Just across the street from the Hathaway house is the historic H. D. Ellis Inn bed and breakfast is our new B & B, Cecelia's Hatbox.  Both perfect places to stay while enjoying Blissfield.  You can even find an old fashioned soda fountain in town!

Quality gift shops — Blissfield has shops with products including Thomas Kinkade prints, much-desired collectibles, great country furnishings and more. People who visit our shops discover the difference between the souvenirs of some places and the truly fine gifts in our shops.

Peaceful parks — Blissfield is considered by some to be "park crazy". We have parks everywhere. Parks spanning the River Raisin, quiet downtown oases, and perhaps the finest Little League Baseball parks in this state all provide places for one to relax and enjoy life. New boat ramps help make the Raisin a fine stream in to launch a boat or paddle a canoe.

Civic minded industries — Blissfield is proud of not only Riverbend Timber Framing and Insulspan, one of the nation’s premier manufacturers of timber frame homes and energy efficient building panels, but also of Blissfield Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of compressors and condensers, providing solutions in heat transfer systems. Another welcome industry is Bay Machinery, a leader in the field of quality machinery for the corrugated industry. One of our village's oldest manufacturing firms is  Saxmayer Corporation, one of the very few bundle tying machine fabricators in the world. These firms contribute so very much to our community. New companies continue to seek out our community as a place where they can successfully set up shop.

Great schools — Blissfield has excellent schools, some of the finest in Michigan. Few school districts can claim North Central Association accreditation, kindergarten though twelfth grade… Blissfield is among that elite group. With fine teachers, gifted scholars and state championship athletes, Blissfield schools are highly desired schools of choice.

Unique railroad opportunities — Blissfield is home to The Adrian & Blissfield Railroad Company who offers not only regulars trips on the tracks but also highly acclaimed fine dining and Murder Mystery tours. Also located in our village is one of the fastest growing model railroad clubs around, the Raisin Valley Model Railroad Club. Their model train layouts, open to the public, are a sight to behold. Our historic three bridges spanning the Raisin River add more charm.

Victorian charm — Blissfield has many faithfully restored, turn-of-the-century homes. Visit our quiet tree-lined streets and return to a time when the world seemed to turn just a little bit slower.  Our historic First Presbyterian Church on Franklin Street is just one example.

Fantastic celebrationsBlissfield’s River Raisin Festival has grown from a small hometown celebration to a weekend of over 100,000 guests. With a parade second to none, fantastic fireworks, and non-stop, free entertainment, it’s the place to be in July. Our Community Garage Sale in early September each year sees Ellis Park literally full of garage sale and flea market booths. Also that day come see one of Michigan Canoe Racing Association's sanctioned races. Some of the Midwest's finest athletes compete in their canoes for trophies and cash prizes. In 1999, the Blissfield's race was named Race of the Year by the MCRA. In November, just as the first flakes of snow reach the ground, Blissfield’s Yuletide Open House gets everyone in the spirit for another great holiday season.

Elysium is a word of many definitions… nirvana; a delightful place; paradise; heaven; or simply a field of bliss. People of this village say that Blissfield and Elysium are synonymous. Stay with us a while… you’ll soon discover what people say is true!
